Spain is fully open to foreign buyers; the practical prerequisite is an NIE (foreigner identification number), which every purchaser needs before completion. Transaction taxes differ by region and by whether the home is new or resale, so total buying costs vary noticeably between regions.

The busiest international markets are the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol, the Balearic Islands, and the Madrid and Barcelona metros. Note that Spain closed its golden visa scheme in April 2025, so a property purchase no longer carries a residency fast track.
